Bampton Morris
Great Sunday night. Wandered along to the ‘Romany’ pub in Bampton for the Folk Club session. On approach heard squeeze boxes out back, and lo! The Bampton Traditional Morris (as opposed to the Traditional Bampton Morris, or the Bampton ‘Young’ side – all a bit Popular Liberation Front of Judea’..) were having their last full practice before their season starts next Monday Bank Holiday. The impressive thing was that all their families were there in the beer garden supporting them. No bells, no calling, just ‘wham /bang’ into dances under the watchful eye of the Squire. First the boys, then the men, then the boys etc. About 20 dancers in civvies there – brilliant!
